On the evening of February 1, the COSCO Shipping Brazil vessel, equipped with the IBOX-BPV (onboard container smart monitoring solution), completed its maiden voyage and docked at port. This voyage carried 1,330 refrigerated containers, setting a new record for the highest number of refrigerated containers ever carried by a single ship into Shanghai Port, marking the successful debut of the IBOX-BPV in deep-sea refrigerated container operations.
Due to Chile’s unique geography and climate, its plump, crisp, and nutrient-rich cherries are in high demand worldwide. In recent years, advancements in cold chain technology and upgraded shipping routes have allowed Chilean cherries to arrive in China just before the Spring Festival. Their affordable prices and vibrant red appearance make them a popular addition to New Year’s celebrations. The IBOX-BPR (refrigerated container terminal product) + IBOX-BPV (onboard container monitoring product) combination provides real-time monitoring of refrigerated container conditions, ensuring that the cherries remain crisp, sweet, and fresh.
Cherries, being a non-climacteric fruit, require constant low temperatures, higher CO2 concentrations, and stable relative humidity for long-term storage and transportation. To ensure accurate monitoring of container conditions and prompt fault detection for efficient response, more and more carriers are choosing the BoxPlus IBOX-BPR to intelligently monitor containers in transit, offering comprehensive ov ersight and improving the quality of goods.
However, refrigerated containers on deep-sea voyages still face challenges such as communication signal loss and the risk of losing real-time monitoring in remote maritime regions. BoxPlus developed and launched the IBOX-BPV, an onboard container smart monitoring solution to address these challenges. The IBOX-BPV allows data collected from the IBOX-BPR to be accurately transmitted back to the deck office and the IBOX cloud platform. This improves the efficiency of manual inspections by crew members and reduces operational risks, also enables real-time monitoring of refrigerated containers even in remote deep-sea areas, enabling carriers and cargo owners to monitor container status on the IBOX platform. This marks the true realization of continuous, intelligent container cold chain monitoring.
As the Chinese New Year approached, on February 1, the COSCO Shipping Brazil vessel successfully sailed and returned with 1,330 units of fresh cherries. The cherries, each bursting with vibrant red color, symbolized family reunions and festivities, marking the successful deployment of the IBOX-BPV in deep-sea refrigerated container operations.
On February 2, the BoxPlus R&D team boarded the COSCO Shipping Brazil vessel to analyze shipping data and upgrade the IBOX-BPV based on feedback. During the visit, they gathered firsthand insights from the captain and crew about their user experience and expectations for technological innovation and smart empowerment. It is believed that the continuously updated IBOX-BPV will become a new cornerstone for improving the quality and efficiency of refrigerated container shipping and will bring new prosperity to the cold chain industry.
